GEO (AI visibility) makes sure ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Copilot and Perplexity mention your franchise brand and locations when someone asks a question. That only works if your brand exists as a clear entity, with identical details everywhere. We build that foundation per franchise brand and measure the result monthly with fixed test prompts.
Why does AI visibility matter for franchise brands?
People also put their question to an AI assistant instead of looking at ten links. "Which hairdresser in Zwolle is open on Sunday?" or "Which hospitality franchise brand suits me?" The answer is one paragraph with a few names. If you are not in it, you do not exist for that person.
For a franchise brand this plays out on two levels. The brand must be recognised as a trustworthy organisation. And every location must be known as a local place, with correct addresses and opening hours. Generative Engine Optimisation, GEO for short, targets both. How assistants arrive at their choice is explained in how AI assistants recommend franchise brands.
The scale is large. According to the NFV franchise statistics, the Netherlands had 936 franchise brands with a combined 34,937 locations in reference year 2025. Every franchise brand competes in AI answers with other chains and with independent businesses.
Which signals do AI assistants use to mention franchise brands?
AI assistants combine what they know from training data with what they retrieve live from search results and map services. Our starting point: clarity wins. A brand with contradictory details gets skipped. A brand with clear, consistent details in trustworthy places gets mentioned.
| Signal | Gets skipped | Gets mentioned |
|---|---|---|
| Location details | Scattered, contradictory addresses and hours | Consistent NAP on the website, Google, Apple and Bing |
| Brand as an entity | No clear link between profiles | Schema with sameAs to all official profiles |
| External sources | Few mentions outside the brand's own website | Mentions on trustworthy websites |
| Structure of copy | Long copy without a direct answer | Answer first, explanation after |
| Local pages | One general page for all locations | A dedicated page per location with schema |

How do we make your franchise brand visible in AI answers?
Our GEO approach consists of four tracks that we run in parallel. How AI helps us in this and where the limits lie is described in how we use AI.
| Track | Concrete task | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Entity | Organisation and location schema with sameAs | Brand and locations recognisable as one whole |
| Data | NAP comparison across all profiles | No more contradictory details |
| Content | Answer-first rewriting of key pages | Quotable answers for AI assistants |
| Sources | Checking and adding mentions on relevant websites | External confirmation |
| Monitoring | Fixed test prompts per month in five assistants | Visible trend per franchise brand and region |
Entity and knowledge graph
We record who the franchise brand is: name, head office, locations, founder, profiles. That goes into schema markup on the website, with sameAs references to all official profiles. This allows a search engine or language model to link all the separate signals to one brand.
Consistent details per location
Each location gets the same details on the brand's website, in Google, Apple Maps and Bing. AI flags discrepancies between profiles, a specialist corrects them. That includes a dedicated page per location; see local landing pages with schema.
Content that gives an answer
We rewrite key pages so they directly answer the questions customers and candidates ask. A short answer at the top, explanation and tables below. That also helps with organic visibility in Google.
Mentions beyond your own website
AI assistants trust sources that confirm each other. We make sure there are correct mentions on relevant, trustworthy websites. Your franchise brand can also be featured within the franchise sites in our network, provided it fits the content.

How do you measure GEO results for a chain?
AI visibility is harder to measure than rankings in Google, but not impossible. For each franchise brand we draw up a fixed set of test prompts, for example per sector and per region. Every month we put those prompts to ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Copilot and Perplexity. We record whether your brand is mentioned, which location, and which source the assistant cites. Anyone who wants to experiment themselves will find tests and explanations on LocalSEOLab.nl.
| Metric | Why | How we measure it |
|---|---|---|
| Mentioned in the answer | Core question: do you exist for the assistant? | Fixed test prompts per month, per assistant |
| Correct location mentioned | A customer should go to the nearest branch | Checking town and address in the answer |
| Source citation | Shows which pages AI trusts | Recording and grouping cited URLs |
| Accuracy of details | A wrong answer costs customers | Comparing opening hours and address in the answer with the source file |
| Error-free schema | Foundation for entity recognition | Technical validation of structured data |
Which GEO mistakes do franchise chains often make?
The first mistake is thinking GEO is a stand-alone trick. Without correct basic details, no approach works. The Local SEO Benchmark Franchise Ketens 2026 showed that 40% of 500 Google Business Profiles examined were fully completed. If the basics are missing that often, an assistant has little to go on. Other pitfalls: different brand names per location, no sameAs links, and long marketing copy without a concrete answer. Monitoring without fixed questions is also pointless, because you end up comparing apples with oranges.
Looking specifically for a GEO agency? First check who compiled the ranking: in many lists of 'the best GEO agencies' the agency that wrote the list is itself at number 1. Compare instead on testable criteria, such as fixed test prompts and measurement per location; you will find an overview at bestgeobureau.nl.
What does a GEO baseline measurement with test prompts look like?
A fictional example. A franchise brand with 30 locations has us ask 20 test prompts per month in five assistants. That is 100 answers per measurement.
| Outcome | Baseline (fictional) | After six months (fictional) |
|---|---|---|
| Franchise brand mentioned | 12 of 100 answers | 31 of 100 answers |
| Correct location mentioned | 5 of 100 | 19 of 100 |
| Error in address or opening hours | 9 of 100 | 2 of 100 |
| Own website cited as a source | 3 of 100 | 14 of 100 |
What does GEO cost for a franchise brand?
GEO and AI visibility are part of the Full service package at €600 per location per month, excl. VAT. That package also includes Google Business Profile management, NAP monitoring, review management, posts on profiles and local landing pages. All packages are listed under our prices per location. GEO works best in combination with the other channels from all services for franchise brands.
What does a location outside the Google Maps top 3 cost you?
This calculation uses Dutch figures instead of American click-through rates. The average revenue per franchise location comes from the Dutch Franchise Association (NFV) statistics, reference year 2025. Nobody can say in advance exactly how much revenue a location loses without a top position in Google Maps, with a Google Business Profile that is not in order, or without proper review management. So you calculate a scenario per cause: a few percent of revenue going to a more visible competitor. Add them up and you see the combined cost.
| Sector | Revenue per location per year | 1% revenue missed | 3% revenue missed | Growth package (€4,800 a year) as share of revenue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All sectors (average) | €1,445,000 | €14,450 | €43,350 | 0.33% |
| Services | €480,000 | €4,800 | €14,400 | 1% |
| Hospitality | €1,230,000 | €12,300 | €36,900 | 0.39% |
| Health care | €1,270,000 | €12,700 | €38,100 | 0.38% |
| Non-food retail | €1,750,000 | €17,500 | €52,500 | 0.27% |
| Food retail | €2,910,000 | €29,100 | €87,300 | 0.16% |
| Other brands | €680,000 | €6,800 | €20,400 | 0.71% |
- 6 of the 100 largest Dutch franchise chains reply to a Google review within 24 hours; the average response time is 6.8 days and 90% has no demonstrable review management process.
- Only 40% of the 500 Google Business Profiles examined is fully completed.
- In the measurement one review was viewed around 15,000 times on average: an unanswered complaint stays visible to thousands of people.
- 42% of consumers would rather not do business with a company that never replies to reviews (BrightLocal 2026).
