A franchisee recruitment funnel is the route from first ad to introductory meeting, with a measuring point and a filter at every step. The goal is not as many sign-ups as possible, but candidates with the right region, motivation and own capital. The pre-contractual information required by law is always arranged by the franchisor.
What steps make up an online funnel for prospective franchisees?
We divide the funnel into four steps. Each step has one task: let the right people through and let the wrong ones drop out politely. If you measure how many people move on at each step, you see exactly where it leaks.

1. Ad or post
This is where you attract attention in a specific region. A general call without a place name draws many responses from areas where no location is available.
2. Recruitment page
The page answers the questions a candidate really asks: what do I need to invest, roughly what will I earn, what does a working week look like and what support will I get.
3. Form
Short, but with the questions you need to qualify: region, available own capital in bands and preferred start date.
4. Follow-up
A candidate who fills in a form is often comparing several franchise brands. Call within one working day. If you call later, you reach someone who is already talking to another brand.
Which channels suit franchisee recruitment?
Candidates are not in one place. Someone considering starting their own business searches on Google, watches videos and talks about it within their network. According to the Nationale Social Media Onderzoek 2026, 10.6 million Dutch people use YouTube, 5.8 million LinkedIn and 4.7 million TikTok. Which mix fits depends on the profile of the franchisee you are looking for.
| Channel | Role in the funnel | What we measure |
|---|---|---|
| Google (organic and Ads) | Candidates who are already actively searching | Clicks to recruitment page, cost per sign-up |
| Experienced entrepreneurs and managers | Reach in target region, sign-ups | |
| YouTube | In-depth: what a franchisee's working day looks like | Watch time, clicks to page |
| TikTok and Instagram | Younger starters and first introduction | Profile visits, clicks, sign-ups |
| Meta Ads (Facebook) | Targeted at regions with available locations | Cost per qualified sign-up |
| Own locations | Staff and customers as candidates | Sign-ups with location as source |
Video works well in the consideration phase
A candidate wants to see what the work looks like. With YouTube video for franchise brands you let a real franchisee talk about an ordinary working day. For the first introduction, short-form video on TikTok works better, while LinkedIn for recruitment and B2B suits candidates with management experience.
How do you qualify candidates on own capital and region?
Qualifying already starts on the recruitment page. Be open about the investment. For orientation: in a market study from France (2025, 21 brands), own capital was usually between €25,000 and €150,000, and the total investment for mid-sized franchise brands between €150,000 and €530,000. Note: these are French figures; in the Netherlands they can differ considerably per franchise brand. So state your own range.
Let candidates choose a band in the form instead of an exact amount. That feels less intrusive and gives you enough to filter on. Point out financing options too. Through its SME credit, Qredits lends amounts between €50,000 and €250,000. Through the BMKB, the Dutch government guarantees 90%, with a ceiling of €1.5 million per loan. Which share a candidate has to contribute themselves is decided by each bank per case and per franchise brand.
| Question | Why | How we measure it |
|---|---|---|
| Preferred region or town | Only regions with available locations count | Percentage of sign-ups in target region |
| Own capital in bands | Prevents conversations without a financial basis | Distribution across bands |
| Preferred start date | Planning of training and opening | Share within twelve months |
| Business or sector experience | Estimate of support needed | Share with relevant experience |
| How did you find us | Linking channel to quality | Qualified sign-ups per source |
Which legal obligations remain with the franchisor during recruitment?
We handle the online recruitment. The obligations under the Dutch Franchise Act, which came into force on 1 January 2021, lie not with us but with you as the franchisor. You provide a candidate in advance with information on matters such as the fees and the investments you require (Articles 7:913 and 7:916 of the Dutch Civil Code). Only four weeks after that information may anything be signed: the standstill period.
For the funnel this means: the recruitment page may be enthusiastic, but it must not make promises that are inconsistent with the information you later provide formally. Align texts about investments and earnings with your own documents. Have your contract reviewed by a franchise lawyer; this is not legal advice.
What does a recruitment funnel deliver? A fictitious example calculation
The example below is entirely fictitious and intended to show how to calculate per step. Real ratios differ per franchise brand, region and season. That is exactly why we measure each step separately, just as with the key metrics per location.
| Step | Number (fictitious) | Conversion (fictitious) | What you adjust if it disappoints |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recruitment page visitors | 2,000 | Make the ad more specific per region | |
| Sign-ups via form | 60 | 3% | Explain investment and working week more clearly |
| Qualified on region and capital | 24 | 40% | Sharpen filter questions or targeting |
| Introductory meeting | 12 | 50% | Call faster, within one working day |
| Start of franchisor information process | 4 | 33% | Prepare the meeting and information better |
Reading the table
In this fictitious example, the biggest drop is between visit and sign-up. That is usually a page or form problem, not an advertising problem. More budget will not solve it; a better page will.
How do you start recruiting franchisees online?
Start with a clear recruitment page per region and a short form. Then run a short trial in one or two regions and measure every step. For new franchise brands this ties in with launching a new franchise brand, where the first locations often come through the founders' own network. How we take this from trial to roll-out is explained in our step-by-step approach.
If you want us to set up and manage the entire funnel, the approach is described under finding prospective franchisees online. Aspiring franchisees who are searching themselves can visit our matching platform franchise-starten.nl. Also see more knowledge base articles for other practical guides.
